In a Truth Social post on July 5, 2024, then-candidate Donald J. Trump wrote: “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

Now 13 days after his inauguration, the reality sinks in:

Since his inauguration on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump has enacted a series of executive orders and directives that align with the objectives outlined in Project 2025, a conservative policy blueprint developed by The Heritage Foundation. Key actions include:

    1. Pardoning January 6 Rioters: On his first day in office, President Trump issued a sweeping executive order granting full, complete, and unconditional pardons to over 1,500 individuals convicted in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. This action included prominent figures such as Enrique Tarrio, former leader of the Proud Boys, and Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, both of whom were released from prison following the pardons.
    2. Imposing Trade Tariffs on Canada and Mexico: President Trump announced the immediate imposition of 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, aiming to pressure these neighboring countries to strengthen measures against unauthorized migration and illicit drug flows into the United States.
    3. Initiating Mass Deportations of Undocumented Immigrants: The administration has launched an aggressive crackdown on illegal immigration, signing executive orders to facilitate the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants. These directives include suspending asylum processes, re-opening Guantanamo Bay prison to detain 30,000 immigrants awaiting deportation, restarting border wall construction, and reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy to expedite the removal of individuals without legal authorization to reside in the U.S.
    4. Eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Programs: An executive order was issued to dismantle DEI initiatives across federal agencies. As part of this directive, federal employees have been instructed to remove gender pronouns from email signatures and official communications.
    5. Restructuring Federal Agencies: President Trump signed an executive order to integrate the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) into the State Department, aiming to reduce USAID’s size and autonomy. This move is intended to align foreign aid distribution with the administration’s “America First” policy.
    6. Targeting Transgender Rights: The administration has implemented several measures affecting transgender individuals, including:
      • Recognizing only two biological sexes and prohibiting the use of taxpayer funds to support “gender ideology.”
      • Denying passport gender markers that do not conform to the male-female binary.
      • Transferring transgender women in federal custody to men’s prisons.
      • Potentially banning transgender individuals from military service.
      • Cutting federal funding for gender-affirming medical care for minors.
      • Preventing schools from supporting students who are socially transitioning and blocking the use of names and pronouns that align with their gender identity.
    7. Expanding Energy Production: In line with Project 2025’s recommendations, President Trump signed an executive order promoting the utilization of Alaska’s vast lands and resources to enhance national energy security, including the expansion of oil and gas drilling.
    8. Freezing Federal Loans and Grants: The administration announced a suspension of all federal loans and grants, a move influenced by Project 2025’s suggestions to review and eliminate funding for programs promoting liberal agendas, such as LGBTQ+ equality and environmental protection.
    9. Reinstating Schedule F: An executive order was signed to restore a 2020 directive that reclassifies thousands of federal employees, removing protections that prevent at-will firings. This action facilitates the replacement of career civil servants with political appointees aligned with the administration’s agenda.
    10. Withdrawing from International Climate Agreements: President Trump issued Executive Order 14162, titled “Putting America First In International Environmental Agreements,” directing the immediate withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Agreement and other international climate commitments.
    11. Firing Federal Employees and Prosecutors: The Trump administration has initiated extensive cuts within the U.S. Justice Department, targeting career FBI officials and prosecutors involved in investigations related to the January 6 Capitol attack and other matters concerning President Trump. More than a dozen employees who worked on criminal investigations into President Trump have been dismissed.
    12. Purging FBI Personnel: In a significant move, the administration is poised to launch a substantial purge within the FBI, targeting agents and officials involved in investigations that led to criminal charges against President Trump. This includes personnel involved in the January 6 Capitol assault investigations. The anticipated firings could affect hundreds of individuals, raising concerns about potential delays in sensitive national security and counterintelligence cases.
