The right to reproductive freedom is, at its heart, about personal autonomy. To enjoy personal autonomy, we must have access to contraceptives and abortion, comprehensive sex education, comprehensive medical care, and safe housing. We must be free from violence and coercion. We must be free to decide the number and timing of our children, should we choose to have them, and we must have safe and healthy environments in which to raise those children. We must have the education necessary to make informed decisions, and access to the resources necessary to meet our basic needs. The right to reproductive freedom is the right to make our own choices about our bodies and futures.
Reproductive freedom is fundamental to multiple human rights, including the right to life, the right to be free from torture, the right to health, the right to privacy, and the right to education. All people deserve the freedom to make informed decisions concerning reproduction without confronting discrimination, coercion, or violence.
