Diana Adams (they/them) is an international legal leader in advocacy for LGBTQIA+ families and an inclusive definition of family beyond the romantic couple. Diana practices law in the US, and runs a boutique law firm providing representation in NY state & mediation services nationwide for those hoping to negotiate intentional families. Diana is the Executive Director of the Chosen Family Law Center, a nonprofit providing free legal services for low-income transgender communities, LGBTQIA+ asylees, and LGBTQIA+, non-nuclear, & polyamorous families, as well as advocacy for expansion of laws supporting an inclusive definition of family. Diana is the co-founder of the Polyamory Legal Advocacy Coalition, through which they helped draft & pass the first laws in the US for plural domestic partnership as well as the first law regarding non-discrimination based on family status. While living in Germany and serving US Americans living overseas, Diana founded the Euro LGBTQ+ Family Law Institute, a network of lawyers serving LGBTQIA+ families across Europe, in collaboration with a worldwide network of lawyers and policy makers collaborating for the advancement of LGBTQIA+ rights. Diana’s popular TED talk ‘Why US Laws Must Expand Beyond the Nuclear Family’ has been viewed worldwide & explains their expansive vision of family. They are proud to be a 2023 Ashoka Fellow.
